Lesson 4 - Verbs

Verbs are the main action words of a sentence.

Verbs in Somish are not conjugated, and even stay the same in different tenses!

There is only one form for the present, imperative and infinitive:

je kasta bol.
I'm throwing a ball.

je tika kasta bolen.
I like throwing balls.

kasta bol!
Throw the ball!

To create the past tense, just add the word te directly before the verb:

je te kasta bol.
I threw the ball.

For the future tense, add the word ska directly before the verb:

je ska kasta bol.
I will throw the ball.

To make the sentence conditional, use sku:

je sku kasta bol (om je sku ha de).
I would throw the ball (if I had it).

The only time when the verb itself changes is when the passive voice is used. For this we add:

s if the verb ends in a vowel;
es if the verb ends in a consonant.

bol kastas.
The ball is being thrown.

bol ska kastas.
The ball will be thrown.

musika te speles.
The music was played.
